Headed up by acclaimed Portuguese chef, Nuno Mendez, Bethnal Green's splendid Viajante is tucked away within the confines of the Town Hall Hotel, right in the urban expanse of London's East End.
If you were impressed with the aesthetics before you got through the door, the feeling won't have faded once you cross the Viajante's threshold. It's bright and retro-modern with enamel-white walls and ceilings punctured pleasingly by blood-red & charcoal-black light shades which sit way up close to the ceiling itself, casting plenty of light across the place should the need arise.
Apart from the visually-satisfying aspect, the culinary skill, presentation, taste and creativity is there in abundance as well. Oh, and for those of you fully-acquainted with the usual three-course meal, get ready for a slight change. They provide meals of six, nine, and twelve-courses here. Fortunately, the dishes are small and easily digestible, making it feel like you're eating a fairly standard amount.
The crab, the Portobello mushrooms with cheese and the black olives are all available to start with before moving on to things like mackerel or garlic-riddled lamb belly.
