L'Autre Pied

Black leather chairs and plushy red leather wall sofas abound, together with rose-wood tables and planked flooring at L'Autre Pied. It's a quiet expanse of gentle sophistication and subtle class that won't knock you over by trying to attract attention to itself. From the inside out it looks appealing, respectable and inviting with large glass windows and an exterior frontal eating area (albeit quite small). Inside, swirling floral patterns adorn the walls to match their website's looping-line designs. Again, it's all so subtly effective that you'll automatically perk up upon entrance.

If nothing else makes you smile, the way the food is presented simply has to. Every dish, from the salmon fillets to the pigeon slices, the saddle of deer or pan-fried cod is piled with 100% attention and has an overwhelming sense of delicacy that you simply won't want to take your cutlery to it - you'll just want to admire it, hand it back to the waiter and say, 'thank you very much'.

The prices here, fortunately, don't reflect the quality and artistry of the food. A set lunch menu or pre-theatre will cost you £18.95 for two courses and £22.50 for three. We've said it before but we'll say it again: this is an out-and-out steal especially for the Marylebone area. So, together with the strong artistic flavours of L'Autre Pied, its speed of service and quality of produce, we highly recommend it for fine dining without the hefty costs.
