British
Hix Soho is everything you expect from a London restaurant – world class chefs, top-notch produce and a fun and affluent crowd, all in the atmosphere of a glamorous and chic Soho address. The food is British with a heavy focus on well-prepared cuts of meat and fish, from the mighty hanger steak to the delicate John Dory (just as long as you’re not vegetarian).
You could arguably get a better steak over at Hawksmoor or Goodman, but the main draw of this restaurant is the crowd and décor (art hanging on the walls comes courtesy of Hirst, Emin and co) as much as it is the restaurant itself. It’s not cheap, but for occasions and a no-expense-spared kind of evening, it’s on most Londoners’ shortlists.
Don’t forget about Mark’s Bar downstairs – clubby and stylish in a very civilised fashion, it has previously won Time Out’s Bar of the Year and reputedly makes some of the best cocktails in the city.
