For the perfect respite away from London's chaotic West End, the Old Crown has all the answers. Sit within the confines of its bare brick walls, lofty ceilings and full-length windows and enjoy either a romantic meal for two, a drink with friends, or just watch the world go by with nothing but a pint and your thoughts.
Speaking of food and drink, apart from some European lagers on tap - Belgium's Leffe, for example - some real ales and other more contemporary lagers, there's also a selection of choice wines, roses, and champagnes, making the Old Crown not just a pit-stop between bouts of shopping and theatre-going, but a prime location for a celebratory occasion.
Otherwise, on the food menu, as well as slightly increased prices thanks to the location and type of venue (high-end gastro pub), the amount of choice is big and just making the choice is difficult enough. Potted salmon, pickles and toast for £6.50 (all the starters are around this price); clams and mussels; roasted squash, mozzarella, hazelnuts and pumpkin seeds; or ham terrine all set up a meal beautifully.
Following on - and looking at a price range of between a tenner and £16.50 - there is shepherd's pie with vege; an Old Crown beef burger; rabbit and cider stew; or Scottish rib-eye with chips and watercress on the mains menu. Sides include chips, curly kale, green salad and new potatoes which are all £3 while the desserts, at an average of £6.50, are either a chocolate brownie sundae; pistachio cake and rhubarb; rice pudding; or a cheeseboard for £9.
Elsewhere in Old Crown - as in, the second floor - there is a private function room called the 2nd Floor Suite. Here, there's a fully-stocked bar with dozens of liquors for you and up to sixty others to choose from. The suite also comes with a projector screen, a couple of dumb waiters (they stand in the corner with their thumbs in their mouths...) wifi and pole fixtures. It's the perfect response to finding out where to hold a private party, watch the next big game, or hold a business function.
With so much space, class, and a food/drinks list to be the envy of all other competition, plus the fact that it's open till the wee hours, Old Crown is a definite must for when everywhere has just shut and you need somewhere else to drink. Otherwise it's a great fun pub/bar with a great atmosphere and a clientele to boot.
